The Philadelphia 76ers announced today that Andrew Bynum will be held out for three weeks to recover from an off season knee procedure.

The newly acquired center went to Germany during the off season for Orkothine therapy, recommended by former teammate Kobe Bryant on both of his knees.

The move is believed to be for precautionary measures, although the team also announced Bynum was diagnosed with a bone bruise on the right knee.

With Bynum now out for at least three weeks, he will not be making his Sixers debut at Boardwalk Hall on October 13th for the Boardwalk Classic against the Brooklyn Nets.

The Sixers open the season hosting the Denver Nuggets on Oct. 31st.
