If California Chrome wins his next race, he'll do something that hasn't been done in 36 years: win the Triple Crown.

The California-bred horse drew the No. 2 starting gate for Saturday's race, and a 3-5 line was placed on him winning, making him the odds on favorite.

California Chrome is looking to become the first thoroughbred since Affirmed in 1978 to win all three Triple Crown races: The Kentucky Derby, Preakness and Belmont Stakes.

Trained by Art Sherman and owned by Steve Coburn and Perry Martin, Califronia Chrome is the 13th horse since Affirmed to win the first two legs of the Triple Crown. In 2012, 'I'll Have Another" was scratched prior to Belmont.

Wicked Strong, who finished fourth in the Kentucky Derby and didn't race in the Preakness is the second-favorite at 6-1.

California Chrome is just one of three horses set to run in all three races of the Triple Crown this year. Ride on Curlin and General a Rod are also trying to play the role of spoiler.
