The Cubs are planning to promote Lower Cape May regional alum Matt Szczur from Triple-A Iowa today.

The outfielder is expected to be in uniform for the Cubs game against the Mets and is hitting .261 with 30 stolen bases for triple-A Iowa.

"Wow! What a dream come true!" Szczur wrote on his Facebook page Saturday evening. "Just wanted to thank all my family and friends for their support. ... Without you guys none of this would have been possible!"

Szczur, 25,  was a two-sport star while playing for the Caper Tigers and Villanova University.  He was drafted by the Cubs in the fifth round of the 2010 draft out of Villanova University. He was a successful football player, but passed that up to pursue baseball.

Today his dream came true.
