Congrats to the Mainland Regional High School football team. The Mustangs won the state Group 4 championship earlier Sunday with a 56-0 victory over Ramapo at Rutgers University. Mainland finished the season 12-0.....oh back to the Eagles:

Three stars

  1. Eagles place-kicker Jake Elliott (59-yard field goal to force overtime).
  2. Eagles Quarterback Jalen Hurts (game-winning touchdown).
  3. Bills Quarterback Josh Allen (2 TD passes, 2 TD runs).

Eagles’ best play
Wide receiver Olamide Zaccheaus gave the Eagles a 29-24 lead in the fourth quarter with a terrific, leaping catch in the back of the end zone for a 29-yard touchdown.

Eagles’ worst play
Hurts and running back Kenneth Gainwell botched an exchange late in the second quarter that resulted in a fumble.  Buffalo capitalized with a 13-yard touchdown pass from Allen to wide receiver Stefon Diggs to take a 17-7 halftime lead.

Turning point
Elliott came through again in the clutch for the Eagles. He booted a 59-yard field goal through a driving rain with 20 seconds left in regulation to tie the game at 31-31.

Did you notice?
