(973espn.com) - The Eagles are adding an accomplished piece to the defensive coaching staff, hiring former Miami Dolphins defensive coordinator Matt Burke.

ESPN first reported the news and a league source confirmed it to 973espn.com.

Burke has a history with Jim Schwartz dating back to their days together in Tennessee when Burke was both an administrative assistant and defensive quality control coach with the Titans from 2004-08 when Schwartz was the defensive coordinator. Schwartz then took Burke with him to Detroit as the linebackers coach when he became the former became the Lions head coach.

It remains to be seen what role Burke fills but Philadelphia is in need of a defensive line coach after deciding to move on from Chris Wilson earlier this month. Burke was also a LB coach with Cincinnati and Miami before being promoted the DC with the Dolphins when Vance Joseph left the organization to take the top job in Denver.
