Eagles bring in DT Help

PHILADELPHIA (973espn.com) - With star defensive tackle Fletcher Cox staying away from voluntary OTAs due to his contract situation, the Eagles were forced to give first-team reps to Taylor Hart last week.

Hart, who was brought to Philadelphia as a 3-4 defensive end, is not really suited for the three-technique, however, so the Eagles addressed some of their depth issues at the position by churning the back end of the roster on Monday, releasing punter Ryan Quigley in favor of bringing in Derrick Lott.

A 6-foot-4, 314-pound natural three-technique, Lott started his college career at Georgia in the SEC before finishing at Tennessee-Chattanooga.

Originally signed an undrafted free agent by Tennessee last season, Lott spent time on Tampa Bay's practice squad last season and joins a crowded mix behind Cox and nose tackle Bennie Logan on the Eagles' defensive line.

Beau Allen remains the backup nose tackle behind Logan but things are much murkier after Cox inside. Philadelphia signed former Titans third-round pick Mike Martin last month and also brought in three undrafted free agents to look at in Connor Wujciak of Boston College, Destiny Vaeao of Washington State and Aziz Shittu of Stanford. Shittu, however, is back at in school with the Cardinal and will not return until training camp because Stanford uses the quarters system.

Lott was at Georgia in 2009 and 2010, redshirting as a freshman sue to a broken ankle. He was Selected first-team All-SoCon au UTC in 2014 after being granted a sixth season of eligibility following a season-ending left elbow injury four games into 2013 season. He was also Second-team All-SoCon in 2012.
