Perhaps it was too optimistic to believe Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Ronald Darby would be able to play today after missing the previous six weeks recovering from a dislocated ankle injury. And in fact, he will not.

Darby is inactive and thus will be on the sidelines when the Eagles host the San Francisco 49ers at Lincoln Financial Field in South Philadelphia today.

Darby's absence means more Rasul Douglas and Jalen Mills working outside for the with Patrick Robinson manning the slot.

The remaining inactives are Ronald Darby, Shelton Gibson, Justin Hamilton, Taylor Hart, Jordan Hicks, Steven Means, Elijah Qualls.

Darby was limited in practice this week because of that ankle injury, but appears to be getting closer to a return.  While he was cleared to return to practice, it looks like he is not yet in football shape to play in a game.

There is good news it appears that he is getting closer to a return.

For the 49ers, some good news, Marquise Goodwin is active, he had been having back issues.

Also the 49ers, those not in uniform include LB Reuben Foster, RT Trenton Brown, WR Victor Bolden, CB K'Waun Williams, DB Dexter McCoil, LB Pita Taumoepenu, and DE Aaron Lynch inactive for Week 8 against the Eagles.
