PHILADELPHIA (973espn.com) - The Eagles have claimed journeyman defensive tackle Bruce Gaston off waivers from the San Diego Chargers.

The Purdue product originally arrived in the NFL with the Arizona Cardinals as an undrafted free agent out of Purdue in 2014. In the ensuing two years, the 6-foot-2, 310-pound Chicago native has had cups of coffee in seven other stops with six separate organizations, New England, Miami, Arizona again, Green Bay, Chicago, Minnesota and the Chargers.

Gaston has 12 career tackles and one sack during his career and his stint in Philadelphia will likely be a short one as the Eagles must reach the NFL-mandated roster limit of 53 by Saturday at 4:00 ET.

Gaston will provide depth inside for Thursday’s preseason finale against the New York Jets because Fletcher Cox and Bennie Logan will likely not play, while Taylor Hart is out with knee and ankle injuries and Mike Martin was released earlier this week.

That left Jim Schwartz with only Beau Allen and undrafted free agents Destiny Vaeao and Aziz Shittu at his disposal at DT unless he wanted to risk the starters, Cox and Logan, playing in a meaningless game so close to Week 1.
