PHILADELPHIA (973espn.com) - In a bit of a surprising move, the Eagles will be bringing in a camp arm after all.

According to ESPN's Adam Caplan, Philadelphia, which has three open roster spots in advance of the rookies and selected veterans reporting Sunday, will be re-signing strong-armed journeyman McLeod Bethel-Thompson.

Bethel-Thompson, 27, spent part of the offseason with the Eagles after signing in February but he was released after the team selected Carson Wentz with the No. 2 overall pick.

Originally signed as an undrafted free agent out of Sacramento State by the 49ers in 2011, MBT has bounced around ever since with stints in Miami, Minnesota, New England, and another go-round in San Francisco.

Most teams do carry four QBs in camp but because the plan is to put Wentz in bubble wrap for the entire 2016 season, the number of repetitions he gets in training camp is more important than the average third-stringer.

The other two spots on the Eagles' 90-man roster will be filled by former Villanova linebacker Don Cherry and ex-Alabama safety Nick Perry, pending physicals.

Cherry originally signed with the Bears after going undrafted this year but was released in June. An All-CAA selection as a sophomore, junior and senior, Cherry has good size at 6-foot-1 and 240 and really produced at a lower level, amassing 331 tackles, 46 1/2 tackles for loss and 14 sacks on the Main Line.

Finally an NFL source confirmed to 973espn.com that the Eagles have come to terms with Perry, who spent time on the Baltimore Ravens practice squad last season.
