Eagles Implode in Fourth Quarter, Lions Win 26-23 in OT

LINCOLN FINANCIAL FIELD, PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- The Eagles fell to the Lions 26-23 in dramatic fashion, blowing a 10-point lead with 5:18 left in the worst late-fourth quarter collapse since September 17, 2006, when the Giants came back from 24-14 in the final 4:18.

The Eagles appeared to take control when Michael Vick hit Jeremy Maclin for a 70-yard touchdown, burning a Lions blitz on third-and-four with 5:18 remaining to take a 23-13 lead. Vick was 28-of-46 for 311 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions while running nine times for 59 yards and fumbling once.

“100 percent you have to win that," said Eagles cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha. "You can’t win those games, you’ve got to go back to the drawing board and see what’s going wrong. You’ve got to be able to close out a game like that. We all feel like that on defense, I know that."

The Eagles gave up a 17-yard touchdown from Matthew Stafford to Nate Burleson with 3:32 left set up by a 57-yard reception by Tony Scheffler. That cut the lead to 23-20.

The Lions got the ball back at their own 32-yardline with 2:17 left, and wide receiver Calvin Johnson had receptions of 17 and 16 yards on a 12-play drive, leading to a 19-yard field goal by Jason Hanson with three seconds left.

After the Eagles went three-and-out in overtime, yielding two sacks, Hanson hit a 45-yard game winning field goal on the end of a 5-play, 23-yard drive.

The loss drops the Eagles to 3-3 heading into their bye week, and leaves them on the wrong side of two fourth quarter comebacks in as many weeks. Five of Philadelphia's six games have been decided by one score or less, while all of the Lions' (2-3) games have been within one score.

For three-plus quarters, Philadelphia rolled, holding the Lions to six points through the first 49-plus minutes before yielding 20 points in the final 11 minutes and overtime.
