The Eagles have announced the promotion of running back Josh Adams off their practice squad and released wide receiver DeAndre Carter.

Adams, 21, was signed as an undrafted rookie out of Notre Dame,, and put together a solid preseason, finishing with 90 yards on 23 attempts (3.9 Y/A). He’ll add depth to an running back group that includes Jay Ajayi, Corey Clement, Darren Sproles and Wendell Smallwood.

With all those bodies in the backfield, one has to wonder why the Eagles would be adding another running back to the mix.  Some possibilities could be Sproles will not be ready for Sunday or the team is ready to move on from Smallwood.
