The Eagles' rookie wide receiver Paul Turner continues to be a name that keeps coming up at training camp practices.

In the teams preseason opener, he came up with six catches on seven targets and continues to make plays on the practice field at the Nova Care Complex.  Turner has made it a habit during camp to come up with catch after catch in a camp that has seen its fair share of drops.

"Paul is a good route runner; he's got good feet, he's got good hands," Eagles offensive coordinator Frank Reich explained. "I think that's really a big part of playing consistently, right? The quarterback has to know where you're going to be. Quarterbacks want to have the confidence to know that we're going to make the play when we come to him. Paul has done a pretty nice job."

The knock on Turner is his size, at just 5-10, 193 pounds, he is one of the smaller wide outs in camp, but he has started to stand out and make the coaches take notice of him.

"You know what? He has been as consistent as you can be at that position," Reich admitted. "I mean, he’s been impressive. He’s tough. You can just tell he’s a mentally and physically tough guy. He competes very hard; he’s an instinctive route runner; he has really good feet. As we coaches say, ‘He can put his foot on the ground and stop on a dime.’ So, he’s done a nice job."

But will his consistency be enough to earn him a spot on the 53-man roster?  The Louisiana Tech product seems like a long-shot behind - but he can make his case again on Thursday night against the Steelers.

"I think Paul Turner has been a kid that has showed up a little bit on offense," Eagles head coach Doug Pederson said when asked which undrafted players have stood out at training camp last week.

Currently listed as No. 3 on the Eagles depth chart behind Josh Huff as the slot wide receiver, he will have to beat out guys like Huff, Ruben Randle and Chris Givens - unless the Eagles keep an extra wide out.

There has been many reports about Randle looking disinterested at times on the field and one Eagles beat writer labeled his effort in the preseason opener an embarrassment, maybe that could open the door for a great story like Turner to make the team.

"Yeah, I think with Rueben – it's a preseason game [and] there's plays we all can improve," Reich said when asked about Randle's game. "Coaches, players, we all can improve. There's flashes of stuff, but the whole goal for our offense is consistency."
