PHILADELPHIA (973espn.com) - Jake Metz had graduated to the big time.

The 6-foot-6 Shippensburg University product, who just won an AFL title with the Philadelphia Soul, has signed with the Eagles after a workout on Monday.

Coming off his second year with the Soul, Metz recorded 29 1/2 tackles, three pass breakups, two forced fumbles and an AFL-leading 8 sacks in the offensively-driven league. He was named the league’s Defensive Lineman of the Year and was also First Team All-Arena in 2016.

“I could not be happier for Jake,” said Soul head coach Clint Dolezel.  “The transformation I have seen from his rookie season to this year has been monumental, and clearly I am not the only one to notice this.  I wish him luck and know that he will be a great addition to the Eagles defense.”

Defensive end is one of the Eagles deeper positions with Connor Barwin, Vinny Curry and Brandon Graham all expected to see significant snaps. Marcus Smith, Steven Means and Bryan Braman are also in the hunt for the 53-man roster, although Braman is more of a special-teamer.

At this stage Metz, is likely fighting for a practice squad spot and his length is obviously intriguing to the Eagles.
