Hall of Fame former New York Giants linebacker Harry Carson says he’s considering a run for Congress in New Jersey.Reached by phone, Carson, who lives in Franklin Lakes, tells The Associated Press he hasn’t made a definitive decision yet but is thinking about it.

Carson could afford to finance his own campaign and has name recognition.

Although he has never held public office, he has been talking to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee about the idea of running.

The idea became more attractive last month after the redrawing of Congressional districts and resulting moves left GOP incumbent Congressman Scott Garrett without a Democratic challenger.

A spokesman for Garrett didn’t return a call seeking comment.
