Flyers Looking For Veteran Leadership
From his perch way above ice level, Chris Therien sensed the déjà vu. The Flyers started out the season with three losses and it seemed all too familiar.
The former defenseman turned radio analyst was a rookie in 1995, when the Flyers started 0-3 in a 48-game shortened season due to a work stoppage.

Therien gives reason for fans to back off the ledge of the Ben Franklin Bridge. His team in 1995 started 0-3. It was 2-4-1 in January. Yet, it also finished the season as the Eastern Conference’s second seed and went to within one game of making the Stanley Cup Final.
“In a lot of ways it was similar,” Therien said. “(Eric) Lindros was a new captain like (Claude) Giroux here. I think at that time there were a lot of big names here. The one thing I remember is that there were a lot of veteran guys.”
Veteran leadership, Therien says, is what brought those 1995 Flyers out of their funk.
