The Flyers have made a trade.

According to reports, the Islanders have traded defenseman Andrew MacDonald to the Flyers in exchange for two future draft picks.

The Flyers will send a 2014 third round pick and a 2015 second round pick to the Isles.

The move now gives the Flyers a total of 9 defenseman on the roster so it's likely a corresponding move would follow.

It's interesting to point out that two former Flyers goaltenders were involved in this trade. Garth Snow is the general manager of the Islanders, while Ron Hextall now works in the Flyers front office under Paul Holmgren. Both goaltenders led the Flyers to the 1997 Stanley Cup Finals.

MacDonald is considered a puck moving defenseman who logs several minutes of ice time per game, although has had the propensity to get injured at times. MacDonald is in the last year of a four year contract however and will be due a big raise on July 1st when he becomes an unrestricted free agent.

The Flyers are sending Matt Mangene to the Islanders.
