The Philadelphia Flyers announced Wednesday that center Valtteri Filppula and defensiveman Andrew MacDonald will be alternate captains this season, replacing Pierre-Edouard Bellemare, who is now with the Vegas Golden Knights.

Along with Wayne Simmonds, Filppula will wear the 'A' during home games while MacDonald will handle those duties during road games.

The players were voted into these roles by their teammates.

Filppula, 33, had five goals and eight points in 20 games after coming to the Flyers in a late season trade, and ended up with 12 goals and 42 points overall.

MacDonald, 31, had 18 points in 73 games for the Flyers.
