The following is breaking news issued from the Philadelphia Flyers on their team website:

The Philadelphia Flyers announced that they have recalled defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere from their American Hockey League affiliate, the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, according to GM Ron Hextall.

Gostisbehere will be available for Saturday’s Flyers-Red Wings game at the Wells Fargo Center, and should he get in the line-up would make his NHL debut.

After a strong training camp, Gostisbehere opened his first pro season in Lehigh Valley with the Phantoms, posting two assists in three games.

He also appeared in three preseason games for the Flyers and recorded two goals and an assist for three points and six shots on goal.

The transaction comes following Friday’s injury announcement that defensemen Braydon Coburn and Andrew MacDonald will be out for approximately four weeks due to lower-body injuries. Coburn had been out of the line-up for the previous six contests, but MacDonald will miss his first game of the season.
