One of the areas of focus for Ron Hextall this offseason was for a right-handed defenseman. With free agency now several days old, the Flyers have found a right-handed defenseman.

The Flyers have signed Christian Folin to a one-year deal, Hextall announced on Thursday morning. The one-year contract is worth $800,000.

Folin, 27, spent the last four seasons with the Los Angeles Kings. He was signed by the Minnesota Wild in 2014 as an undrafted free agent, and spent the first three seasons of his NHL career with the Wild. In his NHL career, spanning 183 games, Folin has seven goals and 29 assists for 36 points, and averaged 2.6 hits per game with the Kings last season.

The 6'3", 204-pound blueliner had 167 hits last season, third on the Kings, and 13 points.

The Swedish defenseman played for UMASS-Lowell, scoring 12 goals and adding 29 assists in 79 games over two seasons.
