The Philadelphia Flyers have made their first move of the off season.

The team announced today that they have acquired the rights for Islanders defenseman Mark Streit in exchange for a fourth round pick and prospect Shane Harper.

Streit, 35, will become an unrestricted free agent on July 5th and the Flyers will have exclusive negotiating rights with him.

Streit has been the Islanders captain prior to the 2011-12 season and registered 27 points last season with 5 points in the playoffs.

Mark is a player we would have had interest in on July 5th,” general manager Paul Holmgren told Anthony SanFilippo and the team's website.

Streit is known as an offensive defenseman and has been very reliable on the power play, something that Flyers coach Peter Laviolette could use in his up tempo system.

After the trade ESPN's Pierre LeBrun reported that Holmgren is scheduled to meet with Streit's agent  Pat Brisson late Wednesday afternoon.

The 2013 NHL Entry Draft is June 30th at the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ.
