Tommy Joseph found himself on the bench on Tuesday night, after striking out four times in five at-bats on Monday night.

Over the last two weeks, the struggling first baseman is hitting just .149 with one homer run and three RBI - he has struck out 12 times in just 47 at-bats.

So have teams begun to figure out the Phillies first baseman?

"I think so," Phillies pre-and-post game analyst Ricky Bottalico said on the Sports Bash. "He is a little bit over-matched right now and it seems as if the breaking ball is really giving him fits."

Following a fast start, Joseph's average now sits at .234 and has struck out 35 times this season while walking just three times.

"The inside part of the plate is a big problem," Bottalico continued when discussing Joseph's recent stuggles.

"Adjustments need to be made, and your going to hear that word adjustments - when your young, you have to change as things are happening on a daily basis.  When they start crowding him and throwing the ball in on his hands - that's a big problem.  The other problem has been the breaking ball, especially with two strikes."

Joseph displayed a ton of power during his first month in the big leagues, prompting Phillies manager Pete Mackanin to name him the starter. Back on June 10th, he was hitting .323 with seven homers and 12 RBI and had 10 hits - including three home runs - through his first 35 at-bats at the big league level.

"Sometimes you have to start thinking, I have to start protecting now, instead of trying to unleash," Bottalico explained about how he can fix some of his issues at the plate.  "He hasn't gotten to the point where with two strikes he is protecting."
