The Eagles will be without starting linebacker Jordan Hicks as the Philadelphia Eagles host the New York Giants.

A calf injury has ruled out Hicks, but the Eagles have confidence in their reserves with Kamu Grugier-Hill and Nate Gerry, who played well in the Eagles opener when Nigel Bradham missed the game due to suspension.

"Nate Gerry is a guy that we trust," said Eagles defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz.

"Has played some good football for us, particularly in the opener. He’s had some challenges with injuries and stuff like that, but he's back. Probably get him a role. [LB] Kamu [Grugier-Hill], [LB] La Roy [Reynolds]. We have a lot of different guys that filled roles when Nigel was out in the opener and we're going to need them."

The just one part of the problem, Hicks wasn’t the only player ruled out Friday.

The Eagles will also be without Sidney Jones, Avonte Maddox and Jalen Mills in the secondary, while Rasul Douglas is questionable, meaning Cre’Von LeBlanc, De'Vante Bausby and Chandon Sullivan will get a lot of time again this week.

"We always talk about the next man, and they're the next men," Eagles head coach Doug Pederson said.

"They worked extremely hard this week in practice so far. It will be another great opportunity for all three of those guys really to kind of step up, really help the defense against an offense right now that's playing well. Great opportunity for those three."

Running back Darren Sproles will miss the game against New York.
