How Did the Phillies Keep Cole Hamels? Ruben Amaro Discusses
Phillies GM Ruben Amaro talks about closing the deal to keep Cole Hamels, likes his team the way it’s constructed, and doesn’t think it’s too late to make a run in the NL.
Hamels’ contract is the second-richest ever for a pitcher, trailing only CC Sabathia’s seven-year, $161 million contract with the Yankees. The deal will carry an average annual value of $24 million, which equals that of his teammate Cliff Lee.
Hamels will be signed through his age-34 season.
