How Zach Eflin’s Play Is An Example Of Prospect Development

On Friday Night Phillies Rookie Starter Zach Eflin put up another good start with a complete game shutout win over the Pirates.  In eight starts in the Major Leagues, Eflin has a 3-3 record with a 3.40 ERA and 26 Strikeouts compared to only 8 walks.  But Eflin's first start with the Phillies was very rough in which he allowed 8 Earned Runs and 9 Hits over 2.2 innings on June 14th.  It has taken some growing pains for Eflin to come around; now he looks like a Pitcher who belongs in a Major League Pitching Rotation.

On Thursday CSN Philly Phillies' Analyst Marlon Anderson joined The Sports Bash and talked about how the learning curve is different for each prospect:

"Today’s game has turned into if a player is hot and they are doing good, then bring him up now while he is hot and see what he can do. Every situation is always different. It is the most exciting thing that ever happens to a player when he is called up to the big leagues for the first time. For me, I am not sure what translates to a player being ready now. You can put up numbers, but there is always going to be a learning curve when you come to the big leagues. You will never know how good they are until they play in the big leagues."
