Word came down from the NBA today that Joel Embiid was named to the All-NBA Second Team, he was also named second-team All-defensive team  on Wednesday. The award makes him the first Sixer to be named to an All-NBA team since Allen Iverson back in 2005-2006 and also becomes the first 76er to merit All-NBA and All-Defensive Team recognitions in the same season since Hall of Famer Dikembe Mutombo in 2001-02.

After appearing in just 31 games as a rookie, Embiid played in 63 games, averaging 22.9 points, 11.0 boards, 3.2 dimes, 1.8 blocks and 1.0 treys in 30.3 minutes per game.

The fact the Embiid appeared on second team and not the first team helps the Sixers, meaning Embiid is not eligible for the supermax extension.

Joining Embiid on the 2017-18 All-NBA Second Team are Russell Westbrook, DeMar DeRozan, Giannis Antetokounmpo, and LaMarcus Aldridge.
