Luke Schenn didn’t know what to expect when he was traded to the Flyers. Sure, he was texting back and forth with his brother Brayden, a Flyers forward.

As nice as it is to have family around, that doesn’t offer much help to a defenseman.

So the Flyers paired Luke with Kimmo Timonen, a veteran who has made Schenn feel right at home through his first 11 games. The older Schenn says, “It’s a huge honor and a privilege” to play with the five-time All-Star.

“Being a young defenseman, you’re gonna make mistakes,” Schenn said. “When you have a guy like that out there who can help you out, it’s only gonna make the game that much easier.”

Of course, that tutelage is in addition to Timonen logging big minutes on the first pairing, blocking shots, quarterbacking the power play and leading the penalty kill. The Flyers don’t want to let him go.
