Carmelo Anthony will have surgery on his left knee and the New York Knicks say he will miss the rest of the season.

President of Basketball Operations Phil Jackson says Wednesday that Anthony could be ready to play again in four to six months, which would have him back before training camp.

The procedure will include a left knee patella tendon debridement and repair. Jackson says it will be performed later this week.

Anthony has had pain for most of the season but continued to play despite the Knicks' league-worst 10-43 record and was able to play in Sunday's All-Star game at Madison Square Garden.
