As the spring sports postseason nears, a few local athletes are showcasing their abilities in a big way.

On the lacrosse field, a 6'6" junior has written his name into the record books at Egg Harbor Township. Eagles attacker Connor Houghton put on a clinic this week, including a four-goal performance under the lights against C.A.L. rival Oakcrest. He joined us on the South Jersey Sports Report to reflect on his new single-season scoring record, and explains why he's playing with "the best attack in the Cape-Atlantic League".

Cape May County Gazette sports reporter Brian Cunniff has all things sports covered from the bottom part of the state, including some "Armageddon-style rains" that pushed back a baseball tournament in Wildwood. Also listen in to hear who put on the most impressive performances at the Cape May County Track & Field Championships in Lower Township.

While many athletes put on notable displays at that meet, they paled in comparison to those of one local track standout. Ocean City's Bridget Flynn racked up three Cape May County records, including two individual achievements on the biggest stage. We asked the Red Raider about her focus during each race, and how she was able to break two records more than 20 years old, all "without breaking a sweat".

It wasn't quite as easy for one South Jersey golfer to become the new Cape-Atlantic League Individual Champion. In fact, it took him three extra sudden-death, head-to-head playoff holes to bring the title back to Middle Township. We asked Panthers sophomore David Hicks what it was like dealing with the elements during crunch time, and how he's carrying on a proud golf legacy in his family.

And one high school football standout is getting a lot of buzz going into his senior season at Millville, and he's more focused than ever to make a name for himself at the next level. Antoine White already has scholarship offers to play football for some of the top schools in the country; Boston College, Michigan State, North Carolina, and Rutgers just to name a few. We asked the Thunderbolt about what's most important for him in the search for the right college, and his personal and team expectations heading into the 2013 high school football season.

We’d also like to congratulate the South Jersey Athlete of the Week:

Connor Houghton

Lacrosse, Egg Harbor Township

He set a school record for points in a single game when, tallying four scores and seven assists on Wednesday in a 17-6 victory over Ocean City. Earlier in the week, Houghton scored twice in an 8-3 win at Middle Township, helping hand the Panthers their first CAL defeat of the season. Both victories avenged earlier losses and the Eagles have now won seven of eight games.
