The Holy Spirit boys basketball team has a brutal schedule of games this season, they did that because they want to make an impact in the non-public playoffs this season.

To make a deep playoff run, they need to be tested and they were on Saturday evening hosting a tough Rancocas Valley in Absecon.

We played with some resilience. We were out played, out coached, out a lot of things.

The Spartans trailed 29-28 at the half and were down by as many as 10 points in the first half of play. They fought their way back to take a 32-21 lead in the third quarter with some defensive pressure, forcing some Red Devils turnovers.

However, the Red Devils used a 10-0 run and built back a nine point advantage, but the resilient Spartans kept fighting, finally tying the game up at 48-48 on a Jordan Taylor steal and layup and never looked back - downing Rancocas Valley 56-52 to improve to a perfect 4-0 on the season, while the Red Devils dropped to a record of 3-2.

"The one thing you take out of it is we played with some resilience," Spartans head coach Jamie Gillespie said after the win.  "We were out played, out coached, out a lot of things."

Holy Spirit placed three players in double figures with Tyler Jones leading the Spartans with 17 points, Jordan Taylor chipped in with 16, CJ Barnes added 10 while senior John Middleton finished with nine.

"Let's say what is it, we were lucky tonight, Gillespie admitted.  "We're 4-0 and we're happy, but we have a long way to go."

Adam Perry led the Red Devils with 16 points and Brenden Ruby hit a couple of 3-pointers and finished with 15. Darius Dooley, Jordan Cole and Shaun Bradley each had six points for Rancocas Valley.
