Mainland Regional High School is ready to begin a new era in both boys and girls basketball. Athletic Director Mike Gatley officially announced the hiring of two new head coaches on Tuesday, April 24.

Mainland Regional graduate Dan Williams takes over the Mustangs boys basketball team, while Absegami High School alum Scott Betson assumes head coaching duties with the girls squad. Both moves were approved by the Board of Education on Monday evening, effectively ending a pair of coaching searches that began nearly a month ago.

Williams, who won two Cape-Atlantic League conference titles as a member of Mainland’s basketball team before graduating from the school in 1990, takes over a squad that struggled to a fifth-place finish in the American Conference last season. He replaces former coach Tom McKeever, who tallied a 16-55 record from 2009 to 2012.
