Deirdre Lenzsch has gone global with her weightlifting career. The Mainland Regional sophomore is currently competing in the Youth World Weightlifting Championships, held in Uzbekistan.

Lenzsch has also stood out as an athlete in lacrosse and football, while also emerging as a chess champion. She earned honors as the 97.3 ESPN-FM High School Athlete of the Week, claiming 82 percent of the total vote.

The Somers Point native is a nationally recognized weightlifting up-and-comer. Lenzsch could ultimately compete at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio De Janeiro.

Absegami lacrosse standout Gary Albano (12 percent) placed second in the poll.  He scored the game-winning goal in a 7-6 victory over Lower Cape May Regional.

Lindsey Gaines (Cumberland softball), Rachel Rivera (Millville softball) and Connor Houghton (Egg Harbor Township lacrosse) were also nominated.
