Earlier today, it appeared that the Phillies were in prime position to land free agent starter Patrick Corbin.  However, things can change very quickly.  Corbin will not be joining the Phillies, but instead one of their National League East foes.

The terms, though, may surprise even those who thought Corbin would make a lot of money. Jon Heyman of Fancred Sports came up with the term:

That is a $23.3 million annual guarantee.

This could be a sign the Nationals are prepared to lose out on outfielder Bryce Harper, so the news might not be all bad for the Phillies.  The Nationals have young outfielders Juan Soto and Victor Robles in the outfield and would be well-served by bolstering their pitching.

The Yankees, though, will remain competition in the market.

Stay tuned; the Phillies will find their starter.
