Per a league source, the four game suspension for Welker was in conjunction with a positive test for MDMA, which had been cut with amphetamines. Both are listed as banned substances under the NFL's substance-abuse and PED policies. Wes Welker's week one status was already in jeopardy due to  a concussion he suffered in the preseason. Regardless if he passes the NFL's concussion protocol, the Denver Broncos will look for Emanuel Sanders and Cody Latimer to have more significant roles opposite Demaryius Thomas as Peyton Manning's receiving threats, while Welker serves his suspension.
