NEWARK — Sam Morin got the call 6 p.m. the night before, plenty of time to tell his parents that their intended trip this week to visit him won’t be in Allentown, Pennsylvania, but rather Newark to watch his NHL debut.

Mike Vecchione got a text message from Dave Hakstol Tuesday morning. The coach didn’t want him having so many nerves the night before his first pro game that he couldn’t sleep.

Both will suit up against the New Jersey Devils and begin their NHL careers.

“It's going to be great for me,” said Morin, the Flyers’ first-round pick in the 2013 draft. “I just can't wait. It's a dream come true for me. I work all my life, so excited.”

All of the first 27 players selected in the 2013 draft have suited up in the NHL…except for Morin, who was taken at No. 11.

This season with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms Morin has three goals and 12 assists in 68 games. It’s his second professional season and the 6-foot-6, 221-pound monster of a defenseman has taken leaps and bounds in his play.
