Phillies pitching prospect Alec Asher will be called up to make his major league debut on Sunday versus the Padres.

Asher was acquired as part of the Cole Hamels deal with the Texas Rangers last month, he has put up a 3.97 ERA and 109/40 K/BB ratio over 133 2/3 frames between Double- and Triple-A. He has the ceiling of a mid-rotation starter.

He has the arm to excel in the majors, but hasn't yet come up with consistent enough secondary pitches to dominate minor league hitters.

With the move, Jerome Williams will move to the bullpen with the Phillies placing LHP Elvis Araujo on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left groin. The team also recalled RHP Nefi Ogando from Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
