Following the Phillies final game of the season in Washington, D.C., the Phillies announced that first base coach Sam Perlozzo, bench coach Pete Mackanin and hitting coach Greg Gross will not have their contracts renewed for next season.

Perlozzo and Mackanin first joined the Phillies in 2009.  Gross had two stints as a major league coach with the Phillies, first as bench coach in 2001 and as hitting coach from 2002-04 and from July 23, 2010 through the 2012 season.

The obvious question with this is, what does this mean for Ryne Sandberg, will he be on the big league staff?

I would assume he will take over as the bench coach, a role Mackanin has held since 2009.  As for the other positions, remember when the Phillies had the "coaching college" with Jimy Williams and Davy Lopes on staff, they could look for guys who have managerial experience on their resume.
