FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that the Phillies are among the teams talking to Lyle Overbay about a minor league deal.

The Phillies are obviously looking for some depth at the position in case Ryan Howard is not fully recovered from the injuries that have hampered him the past two seasons.  Overbay, who turns 37 later this month, batted .240/.295/.393 with 14 home runs over 486 plate appearances last year with the Yankees.

Speaking of first base, Phillies prospect Maikel Franco said Thursday that he has been told that he'll primarily work at first base this season.  This could be a clear sign that Cody Asche has firmly grabbed the third base position and into the future.  It also raises the question about where Franco fits in - Howard has three guaranteed years remaining on his contract.  Franco played eight games at first base last season, but the Phillies want him to get more comfortable at the position.
