Phillies Phones Lines Are Very Active; The Latest Phillies News

Is this the final season in Philly for Victorino? (Drew Hallowell, Getty Images)

ESPN’s Jim Bowden reports that the Phillies are trying to trade Shane Victorino for bullpen help while Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com writes that the Dodgers could make a deal for Shane Victorino or Hunter Pence, even if they acquire Ryan Dempster from the Cubs.

Either way it looks like the Phillies are willing and ready to move their center fielder.

Paul Daugherty of the Cincinnati Enquirer reported Wednesday afternoon that the Reds turned down an offer of Victorino for setup man Logan Ondrusek.  Which is an indication that the Phillies aren’t asking a whole lot for their 31-year-old center fielder.

As for the two outfielders, The Phillies seem to be very  motivated to move either one of them as they try to create some extra wiggle room in their payroll after inking Cole Hamels to a six-year, $144 million extension.

Speaking of moving money, according to FOX Sports’ Jon Paul Morosi, rival executives believe the Phillies will begin considering trade offers for left-handed starter Cliff Lee.  Lee has three years and $87.5 million left on his contract.

In addition, according to Jon Heyman, the Yankees were interested Phillies utility man Ty Wigginton to play third base while Alex Rodriguez is hurt but the Phillies are not interested in dealing him at this time.
