Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Vincent Velasquez left Saturday’s game against the Washington Nationals after being struck in his pitching arm in the second inning.

Before today's series finale agaisnnt the Nationals, Velasquez was placed on the 10-day DL with a right forearm contusion.  To replace him on the roster, the Phillies recalled pitcher Jake Thompson. Thompson has been back-and-forth between Lehigh Valley and Philadelphia this season, posting a 7.20 ERA at the big league level.

The team also optioned lefty Zac Curtis to Lehigh Valley and activated Pat Neshek from the 10-day DL.  Neshek made three rehab apperances, and has missed the entire season with a lat strain

Neshel could help add some stability to the Phillies bullpen.  An All-Star in 2017, he could give Gabe Kapler another option in some high-leverage situations.
