The Phillies recalled Cesar Hernandez from Double-A Reading to replace Jayson Nix on the active roster. This isn't Hernandez first-time with the big-club, Hernandez was 3-for-13 (.231) in his first stint with the Phillies this season.

This time around, the Phillies are hoping he can carry his terrific minor league success to the big leagues.  Hernandez is sporting a .340 average playing for AA Reading with three homers and 14 RBI in 26 games.

He replaces Nix, who the Phillies acquired from Tampa right before the start of the season.  The 31-year-old was batting just .154 with 18 strikeouts in 43 plate appearances this season for Philadelphia.

The Phillies bench has been a weak spot all season, and the team is hoping Hernandez and possibly getting Darin Ruf back could give it a much needed lift.

The team is hoping Hernandez can provide an offensive spark in a bench role, something Freddy Galvis and Jayson Nix failed to do in the utility role.  Hernandez can play third, short, second and outfield in a pinch.
