The last element of the 2018 Winter Meetings was the 2018 Rule 5 Draft.  The Phillies had some candidates to be taken in the draft, and the Phillies went in with some 40-man roster space. The Phillies did not lose any players in the draft, but they did take one, only to orchestrate a trade.

According to Todd Zolecki of MLB.com, the Phillies selected infielder Drew Jackson and shipped him to Baltimore:

The Orioles continue to trade their international money.

The Phillies acquired international slot money from the Orioles back in their trade of Jeremy Hellickson in 2017.  The Orioles have spent very little money on international free agents for some reason, trading most of their money away.  The Phillies, of course, are eager to add talent however possible.

So the Phillies gave up nothing and got something.  Not a bad draft.
