According to the Phillies Media twitter account prior to today’s game, the team optioned infielder Maikel Franco, and pitchers Nefi Ogando and Joely Rodriguez to minor league camp.

Franco is currently the Phillies top hitting prospect and many fans had hoped to see him make the 25-man roster and get some regular playing time, but had just six hits -- all singles -- in 30 Grapefruit League at-bats this spring.

Rodriguez was becoming an interesting name to watch with Cliff Lee's injury, acquired over the offseason from the Pirates in the Antonio Bastardo deal, allowing just one earned run over nine frames this spring but his control was an issue with a 1/3 K/BB ratio - the 23-year old lefty will work to fix that at Lehigh Valley, and could have a bright future ahead if his control improves. Ogando allowed one run and struck out six over 5 1/3 innings this spring, he was acquired from the Red Sox back in 2013 for John McDonald.
