Infielder Yuniesky Betancourt has agreed to a minor league contract with the Phillies, which includes an invitation to major league spring training, Senior Vice President & General Manager Ruben Amaro Jr. announced today.

Betancourt, 30, hit .228 with 14 doubles, one triple, seven home runs and 36 RBI in 57 games with the Kansas City Royals last season. Defensively, he appeared in 46 games at second base, eight at third base and one at shortstop. Following the regular season, Betancourt played for Aguilas de Mexicali in the Mexican Winter League, where he batted .308 with eight doubles, seven home runs and 22 RBI in 26 games.

A native of Santa Clara, Cuba, Betancourt has hit .266 with 203 doubles, 28 triples, 67 home runs and 411 RBI in 1,019 career games between the Seattle Mariners (2005-09), Royals (2009-10, 2012) and Milwaukee Brewers (2011).
