The Phillies have made the following transactions prior to Monday's game against the Giants:

LHP Cliff Lee was activated from the 60-day disabled list.

IF Reid Brignac was activated from the 15-day disabled list.

C Wil Nieves was activated from the 15-day disabled list.

OF Tony Gwynn Jr. was designated for assignment.

IF Cesar Hernandez was optioned to triple-A Lehigh Valley.

Catcher Koyie Hill was outrighted.

For Gwynn, the designation comes at in inopportune time with the death of his father and MLB legend Tony Gwynn. MLB chose not to commemorate the former Padre at the All-Star game because it did not want to single any one player out.

More transactions will certainly come from the Phillies who find themselves in last place. The non-waiver trade deadline is July 31st.
