Did you miss the Sports Bash or do you just want to listen to it again?

The Sports Bash ON DEMAND gives you the chance to go back and hear what you missed.  Its the Sports Bash with Mike Gill and Todd Ranck.

Here is today’s show: Monday July 16th, 2012.

Buster Olney report

We opened today’s show with the report over the weekend from ESPN MLB Insider Buster Olney saying that the Phillies are preparing to make Cole Hamels a contract extension that will “make him think.” If the report suggests it will make Hamels “think,” you’d have to assume that the offer will be in that 6 year range, something that the Phillies rarely ever do.  If he declines this offer, should the Phillies trade him to a contender and try to re-sign him in the off season?  Mike and Todd debate:

YOU react on Hamels

This segment featured calls from you, the listener, on the possibility of the Phillies trading Cole Hamels away.  Most of you think it would be foolish for the Ruben Amaro to trade away your best pitcher, whether he accepts their best offer or not.  Mike Gill, meanwhile, does not trust Ruben Amaro, Jr when looking to acquire prospects.

Phillies math

A Phillies blogger did some math over the weekend and he calculated that the Phillies are so far behind from the pack, winning series 2 games out of 3 every time out would not be good enough to make the playoffs!  Even finishing at 81-81, the Phillies would have to go 42-30.  We also gave you a surprising statistic on Cole Hamels and where he ranks in this category with the rest of MLB:

Cole Hamels debate continues

Mike and Todd continue to debate the Cole Hamels scenarios that may play out until July 31st.  Mike Gill ponders a possible trade to the Pirates for their two top prospects.  Could the Phillies also package Shane Victorino along with Hamels and ship them both to Pittsburgh?  What if the Phillies offer to Cole Hamels isn’t sufficient enough?  Mike Gill believes that whatever Amaro decides to do, it will define his tenure as the Phillies GM:

A new Jon Heyman report

This report came across and Mike and Todd debate it. The report, by Jon Heyman of CBS Sports, suggests that Cole Hamels could get upwards of $150M or more.  Heyman compares contracts of other star pitchers in baseball like Matt Cain, Johan Santana and Cliff Lee.  Mike Gill makes a good point in saying that perhaps its best that Hamels goes elsewhere if we are getting into this type of territory:
