PHILADELPHIA (973espn.com) - Eagles head coach Doug Pederson is on record saying that Sam Bradford is his No. 1 quarterback for the 2016 season but his coordinators haven't gotten that inter-office memo.

A day after defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz told reporters not to pre-judge the team's QB situation, his offensive counterpart also left the door open for Carson Wentz, the No. 2 overall pick in last month's draft.

Appearing on WIP Radio in Philadelphia, Frank Reich demurred when asked if Bradford is the clear-cut leader in the clubhouse.

“No, that’s probably not the right impression,” the offensive coordinator said. “I’ve been around this business a long time as a player and as a coach, and one of the things I’ve really come to appreciate is it’s not a contradiction to say you’ve got to have order. Because if you don’t order it’s chaos."

Schwartz echoed a similar sentiment a day earlier when asked about his team's young signal caller.

“Don’t judge [Carson Wentz] on somebody else and then also, don’t predetermine the results of the race,” Schwartz said. “Just let him go play.”

Right now the order remains Bradford followed by veteran backup Chase Daniel and then the perceived future of the franchise, Wentz.

"If you’re the head coach you gotta come in and you’ve gotta establish order," Reich continued. "There has to be organization, there has to be order, but the other thing that — as coaches — that you’ve got to establish is a culture of competition. This is one of the most competitive industries in the world and so, to say that there’s not competition, that’s just the furthest thing from the truth."

Coaches certainly do loathe the term depth chart in May, where they are just trying to get a feel for what's on the roster and how they are going to progress come minicamp and then training camp.

“Right now it’s so early guys are really just competing against themselves to improve technique. We don’t have a depth chart right now,” Schwartz said on Tuesday.

That said somebody has to take the first snap in practice and at quarterback that rotation has remained Bradford, Daniel and Wentz, although the repetitions have been evenly distributed and the Eagles are obviously laying the groundwork for the Wentz era.

“He’s got a contagious personality, he’s a winner, incredibly smart,” Reich said of Wentz. “For a young guy, about as smart as you could be. Showed all the right signs in every way.”
