The Philadelphia Phillies are a strong candidate to sign free agent closer Josh Hader, MLB Network’s Jon Morosie reports.

Hader is a 29-year-old closer coming off a season in which he racked up 33 saves with a 1.,28 ERA and a 1.10 WHIP. He piled up 85 strikeouts in 56.1 innings this season with the Padres.

Philadelphia could be in the market for a top of the rotation guy if Aaron Nola walks in free agency. However, according to Morosi, the Phillies could also be in the market for a veteran closer with Craig Kimbrel a free agent.

Adding Hader would give the Phillies a true shutdown closer and a dominant left-handed tandem at the back end of their bullpen with Jose Alvardo.

Hader is the top free agent close on the market and could help anchor Philadelphia's bullpen.

Along with the Phillies, Morosi reported the World Champion Texas Rangers also showing interest in the veteran closer.

Spotrac projects his contract to be five years for $87,755,145.
