Philadelphia Eagles running back Ryan Mathews has undergone groin surgery, according to a report from ESPN's Adam Caplan.

In his tweet, Caplan cites that Mathews was first listed on the Eagles injury report in Week 6 in a game against the New York Giants. Although Mathews first told reporters about his injury after the Week 7 game against the Carolina Panthers. If you recall, Mathews had a 63-yard TD run in that game against the Panthers.

Mathews also suffered a concussion after that injury and when he returned, he wasn't the same player. A nagging groin injury could be to blame for his ineffectiveness down the stretch.

Mathews only rushed for 130 yards and two touchdowns on his final 40 carries (3.25 average) of the season.

Mathews is under contract for the Eagles next season and depending on what happens with DeMarco Murray, he could be due for an uptick in touches and hopefully production.
