A star-studded lineup of candidates couldn't hold off the youngest member of the list.

Sacred Heart freshman Kaila Smith collected 63 percent of the total vote to take top honors on May 4 as the 97.3 ESPN High School Athlete of the Week.

10,966 votes were cast during a two-day span.

The softball standout drove in five runs in a 6-4 victory over Middle Township. Her performance featured three hits, including a double and home run.

Smith, who also shined on the basketball court this year, edged Egg Harbor Township lacrosse leader Ryan King. The junior pulled in 36 percent of votes in the poll after scoring a game-winning goal as time expired in an 11-10  victory over Absegami.

Jacob Clark (Pleasantville track), Braheme Days (Bridgeton shot put) and Tyler Chiarello (Cumberland baseball) rounded out the voting.
