The Sixers have hired former Rockets assistant GM Sam Hinkie to be their new general manager today, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports. He will become Philadelphia’s third GM since July 2011, when the current ownership group, led by Joshua Harris, purchased the Sixers from Comcast-Spectacor.

He replaces Tony DiLeo who is no longer with the team in any capacity.

Hinkie has learned at the foot of dominant Rockets GM Daryl Morey for four years, and will now have the final say on all basketball decisions with the Sixers and will also be the guy who hires the next Sixer head coach and makes the final decision on Andrew Bynum.

The Rockets have become a fun. entertaining team almost overnight,. and Hinkie has had a major influence in turning that  franchise around.  He uses his analytical background to the Sixers, one he has used to make the Rockets organization a success in the western conference.
